We are thrilled to be kicking off the 2011-2012 season of Ncounters this Friday, October 21 in Riel House at 9:00pm. To start off our season of “Deconstructing Collaboration in Music,” we are happy to present you our first monthly instalment: “Collaboration the First: Sound.” Join us as four graduate students from the University of Alberta present topics that explore the infinite palate of sounds we make as musicians.

The GMSA would like to thank everyone who made Ncounters: The Audible Past, the Mutable Future such a success! We saw many fascinating presentations and performances from a variety of perspectives and disciplines, and were thrilled by the engaging conversations that they sparked. Our annual conference is fast approaching! We have over 15 confirmed presenters from 9 different Universities across North America, and a variety of topics from Schenker to Prairie Rap.
We’re kicking off the conference on Friday, March 4, 8:00pm with a welcome and social at cafe leva (11053 86). This is a joint event between the GMSA and the History and Classics Student Association, and will feature a guest presentation by Michael MacDonald and Rylan Kafara.
Saturday, March 5, will be a full day of paper sessions and performances. Starting at 9:00am, we will run back-to-back paper sessions in FAB 2-20. After lunch, we will run parallel sessions between Studio 27 and FAB 2-20. Inthe evening, we will have a small banquet with light refreshments in the Arts lounge (old arts building), followed by an interactive, multi-leveled performance throughout FAB.
Also, we are currently exploring the possibility of streaming the conference live so that those who cannot attend can still be part of the conference. A link will be available shortly.
